Adventures of a Hungry Mom
Three years ago when Lucky Locks Hair Extensions was still on the horizon, I was a stay at home mom with a one year old son. No lie, I was miserable. I don’t know how you stay at home moms keep your sanity because I cannot! I was one car sick projectile vomit away from pulling over and rolling in a very appealing puddle of mud while yelling profanities. I had to do something more with my life or insanity was going to become a reality. I have a background in art and wanted to explore some creative options first. First, I tried graphic arts and discovered my graphics always tend to lean on the manly side. Learning the adobe programs myself was not necessarily hard for me but I quickly discovered the graphic arts field was not going to work out for me.
Then it happened, Amanda Dawn posted a set of extensions she had done at some hair salon in Dallas. Considering I had just cut all my hair off like the typical hormonal heat stroke pregnant lady, I was intrigued. (For real though, it felt like my skin was on fire the entire time and I had gained 80lbs while pregnant so I was HOT.) I asked her about them and she suggested I start with clip ins. So with some help, I sewed my first set of clip in hair extensions. I LOVED them and wanted to wear them all the time and I also loved making them. Something about sewing is so calming and therapeutic, not to mention it seems like it’s a a dying craft in this modern age. With the help of Amanda Dawn and my mother in law Connie, Lucky Locks Hair Extensions were born. I quickly coerced Amanda Dawn into being my business partner, I mean who wouldn’t want the hair extensions master herself as your partner for an extensions business?!
Fast forward to the spring of 2017, I was pregnant with my second son and again I was hungry enough to eat my own arm. Food has always been my first love, so of course I had to do my maternity shoot with food and hair! So thanks to the incredible vision of Marcus Junius Laws, my dream photoshoot came to life! One of my favorite people on earth, Allie Toledo, did an incredible job on my hair and makeup. It was truly a dream come true to get to do this photoshoot and I could not have imagined it turning out better! I really feel like this photoshoot marked a turning point for my life. I am ready to take on the world!
The first few years of launching my brand of extensions has been a tornado of testing, learning, and developing the best product possible. I am excited to announce that Lucky Locks Hair Extensions is now beginning its third phase of growth, so stay tuned for what happens next!
